mae klong
railway market

why should you go to a town that is 130km away, only to visit its local market? there are so many markets in bangkok and everywhere in thailand and almost all of them are worth seeing. but none is as unique as the mae klong railway market.
the market area is located in train station of mae klong and on the railway tracks. four times a day the train from maha chai arrives and four times a day it returns to maha chai. so, every day eight times the train completely interrupts the market's hustle and bustle. when the horn of the approaching train sounds, vendors quicly retract the sunshades of their stalls and all the goods on offer are pushed back from the tracks. but some displays just remain where they are, as they are so low-risen that they won't be hit by the train.
a short moment later the train slowly pushes through the market - only a few centimeters apart from the stalls, goods and people.
