suva street life

big cities in the south pacific? well, there are not many - depending on if you want to count australia and new zealand as well, there are sydney, melbourne, wellington and auckland. then there is port moresby, the capital of papua new-guinea, which also is located at the edge of the south pacific.
but a major city in the heart of the south pacific? there is only one: fiji's capital suva.
about 85.000 people live in the town of suva and more than 300.000 - one third of fiji's population - in the metropolitan area. this makes suva the bustling center of the south pacific and the only place where you can find the atmosphere of a real city. and even some high rise buildings. ok, 17 floors and 61 meters are nothing compared to the skyscaper madness of hong kong, shanghai or new york. but even without skyrocketing towers, suva is a lively, but laid-back place to spend some time, as there is a lot to see everywhere on the streets.
